The International Inclusive Organization (IIO), Launches its first lift in its “Fifty in Five Program”.
Their goal is to help organizations and marinas install 50 Human lifts between 2020 and 2025.
The hoist will assist people with limited mobility into small boats or kayaks
With the help of Rotarian, Shana Bagley and her team, inspired by Fernanda Castelo, the first of fifty was installed in February of 2019 at the Richmond Yacht Club.
“Most people don’t know how inaccessible our world is until you experience your own limitations with mobility, or someone tells you about it,” Bagley said.
Inspiration for the RYC hoist came from Fernanda Castelo, an accomplished adaptive/para sailor who found her options on the Bay limited given the lack of hoists.
